3 Ways To Grow Deeper In Your Faith
For so many of us, faith is a journey. It has peaks and valleys, seasons where we feel deeply rooted and seasons where we feel distant or disconnected. Being in a relationship with God is just that, a relationship. It takes effort, on our end, to grow deeper in our understanding of “who” God is and to build a strong foundation of faith.
While we all struggle sometimes to feel close to God, there are things we can do to grow deeper in our faith. Let’s look at 3 things you can do to cultivate your relationship with God and grow deeper in your faith.
Get Into Scripture
Reading God’s Word is one of the best ways to know God. Scripture provides us with the story of who God is and how he has, and how he continues to interact in our lives. Scripture is where we can turn to find truth, guidance, and hope. When we are feeling hopeless, lost, or distant from God, we can turn to scripture to be reminded of God’s promises and His unwavering love for His people.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
It may sound simple, but prayer is one of the best ways to build a relationship with God. Prayer provides us with the beautiful opportunity to speak directly to God. Through prayer, we can repent for our sins and find the amazing forgiveness that God so freely offers. Prayer gives us the opportunity to bring everything (our fears, anxieties, pain, sadness, gratitude, etc.) before our gracious and perfect God, who listens and hears it all.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7
Community gives us a chance to understand God’s love and compassion in a beautiful and unique way. By communing with other believers, we can be strengthened and encouraged in our faith, and we can help to strengthen and encourage others. Maybe you faced specific challenges in your own life, or maybe you’ve walked through incredible seasons of healing. By building community, God can use your story to help encourage others who may be experiencing similar circumstances, and He can use other members of your community to have a profound impact on your life.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. - Hebrews 10: 24-25
Through reading scripture, praying, and cultivating community, you can strengthen your faith and grow deeper in your relationship with God!
