Hosanna
Prophetic Meaning
He rode in on a donkey, and thousands of His followers gathered before Him to honor Him, their hearts full of love and anticipation to lay their eyes on the One who had finally come to lead them. He is the Root of David, He is the Lion of Judah, He is the Christ. He was welcomed by the people, beloved by the crowd that waited for His arrival. This was a part of the sacrifice that would take place... a spotless, stainless lamb, to be received into a home and to do fellowship with those in the house. Passover in real time was taking place as palm fronds were laid on the path before Him.
I imagine this moment as Jesus humbly entered the city gates of Jerusalem. He knew what was ahead of Him. He saw it. I walked toward that moment with every step. But as I was praying, I saw something that I had not seen before, something I didn’t capture in this print. Perhaps another painting is needed. But the image I saw was that as Jesus was being welcomed in by His people, before Him in the sky, tens of thousands of angels stood welcoming the moment He arrived. All of Heaven stood witness to every moment of His life. Every breath was attended to, valued, cherished. The Son of the Living God on earth, fulfilling His purpose to be a ransom for the world.
I pray this painting burns deep into your heart as a reminder of the power of that moment... your Savior entering into His final movements... for you. May your heart be as this moment was: a humble and deep welcoming to the Son of the Living God. Emmanuel... God with us.
Matthew 21:9 (ESV)
"And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, 'Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!'"
