Journey to the Cross - 30”x40” Original Oil Painting
Prophetic Meaning
Jesus called us to take up our cross and to follow Him with our whole heart, so that no matter what would come our way, our walk would be steadfast and true. Some might imagine that the journey will be filled with flowers and sunshine, happiness and dreams fulfilled. Yet, the call to take up our cross is to literally lay our lives and our will down. It is to take up a sentence of death to this world so that we would truly follow after Him.
This painting represents the journey to that destination…walking through the desert, as the story of a lifetime in pursuit of Christ is portrayed. Not as an easy or perfect life, but as a story of total reliance on the Son of God. To place Jesus at the center as our Living Compass, showing us which way to go. Though the path is full of hardship, at times desolate and even lonely, Jesus is our constant comfort and sustenance of life itself. He is our Rock. He is our quencher of thirst in dry places. Our goal is not to rise in this world in power, but to lower ourselves before His authority and go wherever He would lead us…even if that place is full of hardship.
This painting also represents the life of a woman surrendered to the heart of Jesus. Fear of others fades away, and reliance on self proves futile. But to rely on the Living Spring of Eternal Life, in a world of suffering, becomes her greatest strength. She can draw from Him all that she needs for the road ahead. And at the end of her story, as she reaches that destination where her cross is raised upon a hill, she will come to the full realization that Jesus already paid the price in full…for it is a price too costly for us to ever afford.
He took that place for us. He called us to take up our cross and follow Him, to show us that He alone could be raised upon it. If our cross should make it to that destination we will all certainly arrive at after we draw our last breath, the revelation will be made clear in its fullness: He already did His part in taking our place and giving His life for our salvation.
